Proper Protocol: Where should you list your registries?

As things pick up around here in the wedding invitation department, we stumble upon many questions surrounding invitation etiquette. Today we address one of the most popular...

Interprintations,

We are so unsure of how to let guests know where we're registered for gifts. Can we include a registry info card with our invitations? We just want to make sure we receive items that we don't already have & that match our home decor. Any help you can offer is appreciated!

Sincerely,

M.H.

This is always a popular question - one with a very straight-forward answer.

Unfortunately, your wedding invitation {or anything included with it} should not mention anything that relates to gifts. Most of your guests will see it as inappropriate, seeming as if gifts are more important than their attendance.

Don't be discouraged, however! There are other places where it's completely acceptable to mention your gift registries - the shower invitations & wedding website, for example. =)

Be sure you give your shower hostess all of your registry locations, so they can have that printed on the shower invitations. Another alternative - most stores will provide you with small registry info cards (i.e. Target and Bed Bath & Beyond) once you complete your registries. These are perfect enclosures to toss in with the shower invites!

Another great way to relay your registry information is by listing it on your wedding website. It is always acceptable to include your website with your wedding invitations, so consider creating an enclosure card {matching your invitation} that reads something like...

For additional wedding details, please visit our wedding website:
www.yourweddingwebsite.com

{Just be sure not to include the words "gift" or "registry" anywhere on the enclosure card or invitation.}

Guests will also know to ask your family & friends where you're registered, if they haven't heard elsewhere. So rest assured that your registry information will make it's way to your guests.

We hope this helps clear the air on wedding registries & how to relay the information to your guests. Guests should always feel like their presence at your special day is the most important - not the gift. =)
